Backing Up Save Data from a Physical Copy to SD Card

A friend let me borrow Bravely Default about a week ago. I put 60+ hours into this game (and still haven't beaten it) which makes Bravely Default definitely the LONGEST game I've ever played. But when I do beat it, I'm planning on returning it to him. But if I ever run across a copy of my own to play it again casually or for New Game+, would I have to sacrifice another 60-70 hours out my life replaying the WHOLE game just to get to the point I was at? And if you've played through this game before, you'd know just how tiring it is. Fun, but verytiring. Needless to say, I'm not willing to do it again. As far as I know, physical copys save data on the cartrigde itself. Can someone clarify/reassure me?
