A few fateful nights ago, the issue reared its ugly head. My wife was trying to redeem a Gamestop code for a mega stone in Pokemon Y when she saw the dreaded 001-0502. We tried several things that night to fix it, and after attempting a system update the issue seemed to go away, despite no update being applied or needed. Strange.
The next night, it happened on my system while playing Pokemon X. I went through all the same steps but could not resolve the issue. I went to bed after 3 hours of trying.
Since then, we've seen it on both of our devices. Here is a list of places we've encountered the error:
- PSS in Pokemon X/Y
- Wonder Trade in Pokemon X/Y
- Redeeming a code in Pokemon X/Y
- Accessing Pokemon Bank (uh oh, a service I'm paying a subscription fee on!)
- Friend List
We haven't seen it in the eShop, or Netflix, or most other online activities. So, let's talk about all the stupid things I've tried to do to fix this:
- Reboot my router.
- Delete connection settings on devices.
- Power cycle 3DS devices.
- Remove parental controls on 3DS devices.
- Reinstall Pokemon updates.
- Deleting notifications.
- Changing router settings (SSID, security types, passwords, and a long list of etc.)
- Changing routers completely (things worked for a short while and then returned to failure)
- So many other things, everything you could ever find on the internet about this issue.
Nothing has worked. The only way I can now connect is by setting my phone up as a hotspot. That is not an acceptable, long-term solution. I need to make it clear that this is affecting multiple 3DS devices--we have 2 3DS XL's, an original 3DS, and a 2DS in the house, and all of them see these issues. Port forwarding didn't work. DMZ didn't work. If it has ever, ever been suggested on a forum before, it didn't work.
So, will anyone accept this challenge? It is unlikely to be a failure of the 3DS hardware, and it isn't the failure of the wlan.
