OK so here's the deal. I finally upgraded from a 3DS to a 3DS XL. I opened the XL, transferred all my data from my 3DS to it, then ditched the 3DS. The next day I finally sit down to play a game (Theatrhythm Final Fantasy) and after one song the touch screen is all gouged and scratched up, using just the stylus that came with the XL. To me it's obvious that I got either a janky screen or a janky stylus because I used my regular 3DS for years with not a scratch on it. So I call Nintendo, they apologize and told me to send it in to them. I do so and am expecting to have it returned with a repaired screen until this morning I get an e-mail saying that they aren't going to cover it because it isn't a manufacturer's defect. o_0 Alright, whatever. Nintendo has always been good to me on the support front, but I guess you can expect this kind of thing from time to time when dealing with $big_company, ya know? So I go to their website, tell them to ship it back unrepaired, marking off that I disagree with their assessment.
So since I just bought it a little over a week ago, I'm just going to take it back to Best Buy where I got it and exchange it for a new one. Here's where I run into the problem. I somehow doubt Best Buy is going to let me open the new 3DSXL there in the store and stand there while I transfer my system data from the busted one to it before I do the exchange. I assume that there is a method for transferring data to the SD card, then using that SD card in the new 3DS, but everything I've read is about using the system transfer utility which needs both DS's to be present. I mean, there's a chance Best Buy will let me do it in-store, but I can't be certain and would like to hedge my bets. Is there a way I can transfer my system files via SD card or am I really about to lose my ambassador status and all of my games due to a flawed technician assessment?
Thanks for your time. I'm sorry if this has been covered; searching on SD, transfer, etc. gets so many unrelated results at this point...I figured I'd be best off just asking.
Thanks again for any info.
