Backstory: Several months ago I received a 3ds xl from my cousin; it's worked well up until yesterday when the touch screen suddenly stopped working. Now I'm thinking of sending it to Nintendo but (since I don't know how long my cousin had it) I don't know if the warranty is still valid.
As part of my search yesterday I registered the serial number with my Club Nintendo account and received an email saying that the warranty had been extended by 90 days. Does this mean for sure that the warranty is still valid? Or is that email always sent regardless of whether or not the warranty expired years ago?
