3DS will not play DS game.

I just bought a brand new copy of Pokemon HeartGold and my 3DS XL won't read that anything is inserted into the game card slot. I know the game isn't faulty because it will start up on my old DS Lite. It just seems that my 3DS just really doesn't want me to play regular DS games.
