My boyfriend has the special 3DS Fire Emblem bundle that comes with Fire Emblem pre-installed. As i am a fan of the game I started my own file even though I have a 3DS of my own (the regular kind...teal if it matters lol). So since I kept hogging the system we talked about me getting my own copy of the game. The problem is I want to keep my save data. Everywhere I've searched says it's not possible without deleting his DS data or overwriting mine... But i have a question on whether or not this would work...
I don't care if i get a cartridge or download from the Nintendo store. I figure the latter may be easier as most people say going from download to cartridge is impossible without keeping everything in tact. I came across a topic about copying SD card data to another SD card. I assume this has system data on it as well but i figured this was a start.
So if i download the game from the Nintendo store then buy a new SD card and copy his SD data to it (though mostly just the game save data) can i just plug that SD card into mine and play it that way? I don't need to go back and forth between systems so its not like I'm constantly transferring. I just need the data on my side. Then i can put my original SD card in for my other games.
Would this work? I don't really see why not. If you can copy data to use on a different DS this should be possible too right?
Or is there any other way? It seems like there should be... :/
Thank you sooo much for any help!!!
EDIT: For reference i had looked at this topic previously:

I know it's going to the same DS which may be why it works but i feel it should be generally the same...right?
