Nintendo 3DS XL Touch Screen Display Issue

I recently had my Nintendo 3DS XL on sleep mod in my backpack. I was walking home from school and it was raining so hard it actually rained through the fabric of my backpack. Everything got wet, including my 3DS. As soon as I realized, I dried it off, but it was turned off and wouldn't turn back on. It wouldn't hold a charge either. I set it under a fan for a while to let some of the water dry out. The 3DS's charging light would come on, but it would flicker a lot and sometimes would barely be lit. After a while though, the light would stay steady and bright, and the 3DS would charge. I put it in some rice for about 2 days, and over the course of those 2 days, I have managed to get the 3DS to turn on without any problems, as well as get the top screen to come on without any signs of water damage. The only problem is the touch screen doesn't quite work. The interface still works; I can randomly touch somewhere on the touch screen and whatever I touch will appear on the top screen, I just can't actually see the touch screen. After a while, the touch screen will come on, but only when the 3D slider is on. As soon as I turn the 3D slider on too low or off, the bottom screen goes off, but its interface will still work. I also noticed that even if the 3D slider is on, if I open a game that isn't 3D compatible, the bottom screen's display won't turn on.

I really don't want to have to restore my 3DS to factory settings if I can help it. Is there anything I can do on my own without paying $75 to send it to Nintendo?
