I've had my 3DS XL for less than two weeks, and a vertical line has appeard about an inch away from the left side of the upper screen (i.e., too far in to be a mark from the rim around the lower screen). The line isn't completely black, just dim and static-y. It doesn't seem to happen on the main menu, just in-game and in the camera mode. Doesn't matter if the 3D is on or off. An initial internet search has revealed this to be a common defect, so I'm going to need to get this thing replaced.
Question: I've heard several horror stories about nintendo refusing to honor the warranty on this issue, receiving the system and then refusing to make the repairs until a hefty fee is paid. Would I be better off going through the retailer?
One last comment to any nintendo staff who may be reading this: I read your 3DS "code of conduct" and the "license agreements" that came with the "mandatory system updates." Either you ease up on your draconian anti-consumer stance against homebrew, tinkering, and all-around individual property rights, or this will be the last purchase I ever make from you. I won't support unethical business practices.
