Cannot connect to eshop after latest update - an error has occurred

I just updated my new 3DS XL and can no longer access the eshop. When I try to connect I receive the error: "An error has occurred. Hold down the power button to turn off the power, then turn it on and try again."

 

My connection is fine, I am just wondering if anyone else has this issue, or knows how to fix it.
