Animal Crossing New Leaf crashes when I try to take pictures

I got a new 3DS XL yesterday after wanting to replace my older 3DS.
I spent most of today just playing Animal Crossing New Leaf on it. I had taken a picture earlier while playing the game and it worked fine, but out of no where I tried to take one while visiting a friends town, and my game had told me an error occured. My 3ds reboot itself and went back to the menu.
When I got back onto Animal Crossing New Leaf, I tried to take a picture again, only to have the same error to come up. What is the possible reason for this to happen? This never happened on my other 3DS.
