Worst birthday ever

First, it's already a hassle that I couldn't post on my computer because I couldn't type the discussion on chrome for some reason.
Okay, so on March 28th, I had to go with my brother and sister to pick up our brother for my birthday the next day. I don't remember why but I wasn't cheerful that day... It was a 2 hour ride so I made sure my 3DS was charged because I was ready for some intense mayoring in ACNL. I put it in my coat pocket and headed for the bathroom but the pockets are kinda shallow and I didn't secure it like I usually do because I was still kinda off. I turned around and heard a "PLOOP". I froze for half a second hoping that when I turned around, there wasn't gonna be a blue rectangle in the toilet...I have never wanted to touch toilet water so fast like when I plunged my hand in to pull it out. I rinsed it just a little to get the nasty water off the outside and dried it quickly (I was rushing because they were waiting in the car) I knew I had to turn it off fast so I saved real quick, shut it off and drowned it in rice. But before I saved, the top screen started flickering and I thought it would stop soon because I got it out the water so fast. A few minutes into the trip I realized I forgot to take the game out...We didn't get back until about 4 or 5 hours later and I checked on it to take out the game. The next day there were presents and cake and stuff and one of my presents was Pokemon White 2 (it was supposed to be X or Y but my brother got it last minute that morning and wasn't thinking but its okay) I opened it and was silent while everyone waited to see my reaction. That's when I told them what happened. We all kinda laughed because this sort of thing happens way to often. (this was my second 3DS) That night, my brother opened it as far as he could and dried it with a hair dryer. He put the battery back in after a while and I desperately warned him NOT to turn it on because it could short circuit but he did it anyway and it came on. The screen was still flickering and you could see water in it. I don't remember if the bottom screen came on or not...I dried using the hair dryer and a space heater but I kept it far enough to not get hot then I left it in rice for a few days checking it periodically. It never came back on after that but whenever I put the battery in and hit the power button a white flash shows up and it's back off again.
So I'm sending it to Nintendo hoping I can keep all my memory. If I can't, will they send back my old one along with the new one? The triggers almost didn't work anymore but I could still use some of those other parts I hope. I plan to use the "Nintendo pays for shipping" method.
1. Is the method I plan to use faster?
2. If its not under warranty anymore, do I have to pay more or is it just the $101?
3. I don't know if my ACNL still works so should I send that too? If I do, do I pay extra for that too?
