Just got my 2DS last month. It is really fun but I noticed something yesterday. When I tried playing Mario Kart 7 online, it worked fine, I joined a community and played. But when I had to go do something, I can't press Start and exit the game, so I just put it down and left it alone for a minute. When I came back, it said, "A communication error has occurred." So I clicked OK and returned to the menu. I started a community and got people to join by showing it on MiiVerse. While I was playing (and I was about to win), I had to do something again, so I had to put it down again (I was gonna win, too! 
). When I came back it did the same thing it did before. Later it happened a third time. I've never had an internet problem on my 2DS using any other software, so I'm wondering if it's a software glitch, a server kick (for inactivity, maybe? 
), or a hardware problem. Is this normal?
