I have the legend of zelda 3ds collector edition. I know sometimed dirt will be inside the L and R buttons, so I have tried cleaning it up it does respond but temproarly or when I push the R button and kinda tilt it in a way. I really wanna see all the options I have before sending it to nintendo because it is a collector only console which is no longaer avaible, I already contacted Nintendo to confirm it. If it's something that can't be fix there won't be a replacement for that exact console, they only have the black and purple 3ds. If anyone knows a way to fix it it will be very helpful.
I wouldn't worry about the warranty, I bought it back in 2012.
